Sure – it’s all over the internet. But does that prove Wilde said it? Was it in “Lady Windemere’s Fan”? Perhaps in “Dorian Gray”?
This sounds like another one of those made-up “Einstein once said that if bees ever disappeared…” quotes.

It’s often attributed to Oscar Wilde but I’ve never found where he actually wrote it. So it’s hard to say with certain it was him, but there doesn’t appear to be a better answer.

I do know for certain that the best reading of it was Lenoard Nimoy in Civilization IV. 🙂 That’s what got me interested in the quote originally.
