Its nickname as the rebel flag point to why I think most people fly it: as a rebellion against something, likely government. They’ll reject the notion they’re supporting slavery because in their mind they are not. You are conflating how you see a symbol with how they are it. They like the police, or government, or taxes just as little as you do. Instead we demonize large parts of the population instead of corrupt government, predatory lenders and crony corporatists. Assumptions and stereotypes are how we got to this point and how we’ll continue to be divided and conquered.
