I largely agree with you. Unfortunately we
are going to have to get COVID over with
(as in drive it to extinction) before we
start cramming more people closer together.

As a person who has gotten through multiple
decades of adult life being totally fine
without a gas powered vehicle I am now
strongly considering getting one. Over
the last 2 years I've been avoiding public
transportation, most of this has been by
substituting walking or biking but some of
it has been by asking family members for
rides. Being in a car with a retired
family member that doesn't go out much
more than me (I work from home) is far
less risky than getting on a city run
bus with dozens of people I don't know
that are effectively untraceable. Though
driving in a car alone is safest.

So all these idiots that keep COVID going
have been/are going to have the side effect
of _increasing_ my energy consumption at
a time we should be conserving it. The
longer they drag it out, the longer my
higher energy consumption will run.

Yes, I'm vaccinated but:

A: The vaccines are not perfect, they just
reduce "severe outcomes" and are limited in
preventing further spread.

B: The immunity wanes over time.

C: It seems unwise to let COVID keep running
burdening future generations who may not be
able to maintain the very specific technology
that makes the vaccines possible. (Or the
energy that makes living alone and travelling
alone possible for that matter.)
