Deloitte scrambles as entire internal email system compromised
Next up after Equifax’s stunning breach, Deloitte disclosed that its entire internal mail system had been compromised by hackers. A long series of public data dumps then ensued as hackers dump out internal communications on pastebin and GitHub from the Fortune 500 accounting firm.
Russia threatens to ban Facebook over data privacy laws
It seems like helping Russia “hack the US election” hasn’t earned Facebook any brownie points with Darth Putin. The Russian government ordered the social network to comply with Russian data privacy laws or it will be blocked in Russia in 2018. A Russian law enacted in 2015 requires that any data collected on Russian citizens remain in Russia.
Iceland’s .IS TLD latest to kick Daily Stormer
White supremacist website The Daily Stormer has once again found itself without a publicly resolvable domain after ISNIC, the registry operator for Iceland’s .IS domain, terminated their latest domain: dailystormer.is
The website’s operator, Andrew Anglin refused to comply with ISNICs requirement that all domain registrants provide proof-of-identity and current address. Anglin, who has been keeping his location secret in an effort to stay ahead of at least one lawsuit, declined and the domain was unplugged.
ISNIC is the latest in a long line of Registrars, DNS providers and TLD Registries who have either terminated services to Daily Stormer, or declining to take them on as customers in the first place (like we did a few weeks ago).
It’s almost as if self-professed Nazis get no respect. Who knew?
Bell Canada call for government web blocking and copyright criminalization
Canada’s big media 800lb Gorilla is capitalizing on the looming NAFTA renegotiations to insert CRTC-sponsored website blocking and criminalization of copyright offenses – like downloading via BitTorrent. Bell wouldn’t want ISPs to be saddled with censoring web content, “a third-party agency” like the CRTC should do that.

The new newsletter I’ve been planning will be called “Guerrilla Capitalism”. it will hone in on disruptive technologies such as blockchain and how your business can utilize them to better compete with the 800 lb Gorilla in your space. Get on the list here.
