Musk’s xAI Accuses OpenAI of Stealing Trade Secrets
Elon Musk’s startup xAI has sued OpenAI in California federal court, accusing it of stealing trade secrets by recruiting former employees who had access to sensitive information about xAI’s Grok chatbot. The lawsuit claims OpenAI encouraged staff to violate confidentiality agreements, gaining insight into Grok’s source code and data center strategies, which could give it an unfair competitive edge in the fast-moving AI race.
The case highlights the intense rivalry between Musk and OpenAI and raises broader issues around intellectual property and talent mobility in the AI industry. Its outcome could set important precedents for how companies protect trade secrets and manage employee transitions in a sector where innovation and competitive advantage are tightly linked.

Google says 90% of tech workers are now using AI at work
A new Google study finds that 90% of tech workers now use AI on the job, a 14% increase from last year. Engineers report using AI for tasks like writing and modifying code, though trust in the technology varies: nearly half said they “somewhat” trust AI-generated code, while fewer expressed high confidence in its quality. Google itself has embedded AI into most of its engineering workflows, reflecting a broader industry trend where companies from Microsoft to startups like Replit and Anysphere are racing to provide AI-powered coding tools.
The rise of AI is reshaping the job market, particularly for entry-level engineers, as unemployment among computer science graduates climbs and job listings for software roles drop sharply. While some fear AI could displace workers, experts like Google’s Ryan J. Salva argue that automation will mostly streamline routine tasks, not replace core development work. Still, with adoption partly driven by hype, the study suggests AI’s role in software development is growing quickly, but its long-term impact on jobs remains uncertain.
